Love it or hate it, Cape Breton's first roundabout is accident free.
Traffic has been circling the Alexandra Street Roundabout in Sydney since the lights at the top of Kenwood Drive were replaced in December.
Project engineer Lloyd Hall said some people tell him they like the new circular intersection, while others go out of their way to avoid it.
He said traffic seems to be flowing faily smoothly and there has not been a rash of fender-benders as first feared.
"When we first looked at the plan, I thought there would be some accidents up here," said Hall, with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
"But I've been up here a few times a week just to check on things. You know, there are still some people who take a wrong turn or miss yielding, but generally there hasn't been any accidents that have been reported."
The roundabout still needs painted crosswalks, new signs and shrubs for the grassy island in the centre. Hall expects these finishing touches will be completed in the next few weeks.
There are plans for another roundabout at George Street, at the bottom of the ramps. It's part of the highway twinning project from Sydney River to Grand Lake Road.
