Karen Casey says she won't run for the leadership of Nova Scotia's Progressive Conservatives.

Casey announced her plans on Wednesday, saying she was aware of growing speculation but has committed only to act as leader until the next one is chosen.

"I am honoured to have been elected, once again, to represent the constituency of Colchester North and I am committing my time, my focus and my energy to those constituents," she said in a statement.

Casey has been interim PC leader since June 23, when Rodney MacDonald stepped down following his party's loss to the NDP in the provincial election.

A leadership convention will be held Oct. 29-30 in Halifax.

There are no declared candidates, but Jamie Baillie, chief of staff under John Hamm, is said to be considering a run at the leadership.

Halifax businessman Bill Black, who lost his bid for the PC leadership in 2006, said last week he won't run for the job.
