A community swimming pool in Clayton Park could be torn down to make way for a bigger bus terminal for the area.

Metro Transit wants to relocate the Lacewood bus terminal in the Halifax neighbourhood, which officials say is overcrowded and in need of an upgrade.

There are three options for the new site: two off Willett Street and one where the Northcliffe swimming pool and community centre now stands on Clayton Park Drive.

Mary Wile, the municipal councillor for the area, said the pool won't be needed once the 2011 Canada Games centre is built on the Mainland Common.

"It's not in the best of condition," Wile said Tuesday. "So that area could possibly be available, and it's one of the possible favourite choices because of the easy access getting on and off [a bus]."

Wile said the new bus terminal will have public washrooms and a bigger shelter area for passengers.

Metro Transit officials estimate the new structure will cost between $3 million and $4 million. It will look similar to bus terminals built in Sackville and Portland Hills.

A public information session will be held Monday at Halifax West High School.

Wile is quick to point out that no decision has been made.

"Maybe someone could come up with something else. That would be a good idea. We're always willing to listen to the residents and see what they would like to have," she said.
