A Nova Scotia man has been charged for allegedly defrauding three health boards of nearly $400,000.

Cary Lee Hollett was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000, the Kentville Police Service said.

Police allege Hollett defrauded the Annapolis Valley, South Shore and South West health districts over a three-year period.

The three districts, which share financial services, said earlier this month they contacted police after detecting a "significant accounting irregularity" on Sept. 30.

They said an employee with Annapolis Valley Health was dismissed following an internal investigation.

Hollett, of Belmont, is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 14.
