Nova Scotia politicians have lost access to a fund to buy new computers and cellphones.

The legislature's internal economy board has decided to freeze the $200,000 technology fund for this year and the next.

"We have to be responsible with taxpayers' money," Speaker Charlie Parker said Wednesday.

"There's certain costs involved in being an MLA and running our constituency offices and serving the public in our ridings, but we have to be responsible with that money and live within our means."

He said each MLA spent an average of about $2,500.

Parker warned that more cuts could be coming. The government has already frozen salaries for MLAs for the next two years and has cut a $45,000 payment that was available to every retired or defeated MLA.
