A Nova Scotia man accused of making hundreds of false 911 calls has been arrested again.

Thomas Bruno, of Sydney Mines, was arrested Friday afternoon after police say he called the emergency line twice with bogus complaints.

Earlier this week, Cape Breton Regional Police picked up Bruno and his wife, Joanne, for allegedly making more than 800 false 911 calls since July 1.

Police said the caller would either just hang up, report that something was on fire or say there was gunfire.

"Any 911 call, we have to respond," said Staff Sgt. John O'Rourke. "It's quite a draw on all the resources."

Bernice Vickers said she believes someone is framing her daughter and son-in-law.

"She's frantic; she can't understand what it's all about," Vickers said of her daughter. "She will take a lie-detector test."

Police said they're confident they have the correct address. O'Rourke said the phone lines were checked, and some parts were replaced during the course of the investigation.

O'Rourke said another 15 false calls were placed in the last 24 hours —and investigators are still trying to determine a motive.

"I don't know the reason why it's happening. It's mind boggling," he said.

Both Thomas and Joanne Bruno are charged with two Criminal Code offences and one violation of the Emergency 911 Act.

Thomas Bruno is scheduled to appear before a judge early next week. His wife is expected to make her court appearance at a later date.
