The Atlantic Lottery Corporation will be shelling out double the number of prizes for the "Bucko" draw held Monday after a mistake was made recording the winning number.

Atlantic Lotto officials said one digit was incorrectly recorded: an 8 instead of a 9.

Tracey Kenny, lottery spokeswoman, said this is the first time this has happened, and both sets of numbers will be honoured as the winning combination.

"Certainly, it’s a very robust system; however, it’s still a manual system. It’s a ball system with ALC staff members present, and external auditors, but that being said, it's still a manual system," she said.

"So, certainly, it is subject to human error. And certainly, we will take this incident into account, and we will use it to continue to improve our processes."

Nearly 4,000 tickets were affected by the error, with prizes ranging from free tickets to one prize of $1,000. The corporation has already identified a Prince Edward Island player who won the $1,000 .

The correct winning numbers for the Oct. 6 draw are 09-14-17-20-39.

Kenny said if anyone has questions about their ticket, they should contact Atlantic Lotto.

"If they believe they had a winning ticket and discarded it, or if they had redeemed their ticket for a prize that they believe should now be higher, they should call us at 1-800-561-3942," she said.
