Victoria police are investigating the theft of recording equipment valued at $5,000 stolen from a Canadian hip-hop artist at a concert Thursday night.

Buck 65 was playing to a packed house at Alix Goolden Hall when the band manager discovered the theft at about 11:30 p.m. PT.

Among the items stolen from the soundstage area were audio and recording gear and about 40 hours of footage that had been recorded over the past three weeks that was to be made into a DVD.

The hip-hop artist is appealing to those responsible for the theft to return the video footage, no questions asked.

Buck 65 is the stage name of hip-hop performer Richard Terfry, who was raised in Mount Uniacke, N.S. and cites Leonard Cohen, Captain Beefheart, and Johnny Cash among his influences.
