At least 40 people will have to wait longer for surgery as a result of a flood at Nova Scotia's largest hospital.

The operating rooms on the 11th floor of the Centennial Building in Halifax have been out of commission since a heating pipe burst Thursday night.

By Tuesday afternoon, 30 surgeries had been cancelled and 50 others rescheduled to other operating rooms in Halifax.

"As it looks now, we won't be able to do any surgeries this week on the 11th floor," said Jaap Bonjer, head of surgery at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. "We expect to be up and running again next Monday."

He said another 10 surgeries might have to be cancelled.

While the pipe itself has been fixed, Bonjer said air quality tests will have to be performed before any surgery can go ahead.
