If you know who gave a coffee shop manager in Port Hawkesbury a free car for Christmas, don't tell her.

Vicky Baker says it's clear her secret Santa wants to remain anonymous.

"I think it's really important to whoever did this that I don't know," she told CBC News Friday. "I have so many suspicions but nobody's coming forward, so all I can say is thank you."

Baker, manager of Perk-Up, is a single mother who has a three-year-old daughter with kidney failure.

Since MacKayla's diagnosis in March, a car-less Baker has had to rely on family and friends to get to the IWK children's hospital in Halifax every three to four weeks.

But on a busy day just before Christmas, a representative from a used car dealership arrived at the coffee shop and presented Baker with a set of keys and an envelope.

"He said, 'I just wanted to give you the keys to your new car,' and I said, 'wait, wait, you have the wrong person,'" she recalled.

The card read: "Hope this helps with your struggles and your trips back and forth to Halifax." It was signed by "someone who cares."

Baker found a 2000 Chevy Malibu sitting in the parking lot, complete with four new winter tires. It was insured for a year in her name.

Baker said she was in shock for about four days. At first she wanted to know who gave her the car, but now she's content to let it remain a secret.

Nevertheless, Baker wants her Santa to know the vehicle has made a huge difference in her life and she doesn't take it for granted.

"When [MacKayla] wakes up in the middle of the night sick now, we can just go," she said.
