Sixty jobs are disappearing in Truro with the closure of a call centre.
Star Media Group said Monday it plans to shut down its Atlantic Call Centre on Jan. 18.
Sandy MacLeod, vice-president of consumer marketing and strategy, said the ACC has been "outperformed by competitors" and has not progressed as expected in four years.
"We have actively explored an alternate to closing down the ACC, but ultimately the business conditions could no longer support us keeping it," MacLeod said in a release.
He said the company plans to keep the jobs in the province through a contract with Minacs Worldwide in Halifax, which has already been handling some call-centre work for Star Media.
The company is offering its Truro workers severance packages and promises to help them find new jobs.
The ACC has handled calls for the Toronto Star newspaper since December 2003.
