Celine Dion's heart will go on to Halifax next summer.

The singer has been confirmed for a concert Aug. 23, 2008, at the Halifax Common, the central park where the Rolling Stones played last year.

Municipal council has agreed to spend up to $150,000 to host the outdoor event.

The city had been looking for a big name act to follow the Stones, who drew 50,000 fans at the first Concert on the Common.

U2 and the Eagles were two of the bands named as potential headliners.

Dion's show in Halifax is part of a world tour to promote her upcoming album, Taking Chances. The Canadian dates also include Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Dion, originally from Quebec, is known for a number of best-selling hits, including My Heart Will Go On, the love song from the movie Titanic, as well as her lavish stage show in Las Vegas.
