A Halifax man has been charged with mutilating a seven-week-old kitten.
The kitten's genitals were cut off with scissors last Saturday, said Judith Gass, president of the Nova Scotia SPCA.
"I can't figure out why," she said. "Sometimes we have a case of neglect or really bad stupidity on the part of the accused. Sometimes someone's just mean and evil."
The kitten will likely need a catheter. (CBC)
Gass said veterinarians operated on the kitten on Monday, but the animal may have to live with a catheter for the rest of its life.
A female kitten was seized from the home on Tuesday, she said.
Dennis Perrault faces several charges under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act. He'll appear in court on May 30.
If he's found guilty, Gass said the SPCA will seek to ban him for life from owning animals.
