Investigators say accelerant started Wednesday morning fire

Halifax Regional Police have arrested two men after a chain of events that started with a house fire Wednesday morning in the Spryfield area.

Fire crews were called to Williams Lake Road before 6 a.m. They quickly put out the flames and called police to the scene.

Investigators believe the fire, which happened at the back door, was started by an accelerant. Halifax Regional Police said two people were spotted running from the area wearing dark-coloured hoodies. The canine unit was brought in but they couldn't find the suspects.

Officers then used a search warrant to go inside the house that had been on fire. Inside, they found a gun, ammunition, a bulletproof vest and what they call a "sensory irritant."

The two men were arrested after the discovery. They have not been charged.
