Snow warnings Friday closed some schools in southwestern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

The following schools were closed Friday:

  • All schools in the Tri-County School Board (includes Shelburne, Digby and Yarmouth counties).
  • Pleasant Bay School in the Cape Breton Highlands (However, staff asked to report for work at regular time).

  • Cape Breton Highlands Academy near Margaree (staff to report for work).

  • CSAP school in Argyle

Cape Breton's Victoria and Inverness counties were under a snow warning and five counties in southwest Nova Scotia were under a snow watch Friday, according to Environment Canada.

The federal weather service predicts between 15 to 25 centimetres will fall in Victoria and Inverness counties by Friday evening.

Southwestern Nova Scotia is expected to get about 10 centimetres of snow, though Environment Canada says higher accumulations are possible in snow squalls.

On Sunday, the first major blast of snow is expected to hit the Maritimes and could dump 20 to 30 centimetres of snow in some areas.
