A four-car crash on the Bedford Highway near the Windsor Street exchange has sent six people to hospital this morning and shutdown inbound traffic during the busy morning commute.

Halifax Regional Police confirm that four men and two women were injured in the crash. Two people suffered serious injuries.

Const. Pierre Bourdages said it appears a pick-up truck heading outbound crossed the centre line and collided with three vehicles heading in to Halifax.

The crash happened on the Bedford Highway, just before 7 a.m.

The jaws of life were used on at least one vehicle to extract people inside.

Traffic inbound was being diverted up Bayview Road, and there was just a single lane open for outbound traffic on the Bedford Highway at the peak of rush hour.

The Bedford Highway reopened to traffic around 11:30 a.m., Bourdages said.
