The province’s Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate after a 22-year-old woman’s arm was broken while she was being arrested by Halifax police Thursday afternoon.
The director of the team, Ron MacDonald, says Halifax Regional Police were called to The Armview restaurant on Chebucto Road after reports of a woman who might be a danger to herself.
They found her on top of the restaurant. MacDonald said in a statement that officers tried to take her into custody under the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act.
The woman’s arm was broken and she was taken to hospital.
SIRT was called in less than an hour later. The team investigates all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.
