The search for a missing senior in Cape Breton has been suspended.

The 82-year-old man was reported missing Thursday. His car was found abandoned on a rural road near Mira Gut Friday afternoon.

A Department of Natural Resources helicopter, as well as boats were used to look for any sign of the man over the weekend. Search and rescue crews also combed the shoreline.

Desiree Vassallo, speaking for the Cape Breton Regional Police, said searchers failed to turn up any trace of the man.

"At this point, the search has been suspended, simply because police and searchers feel they have exhausted all areas in the proximity of that found vehicle without any evidence to link back to the vehicle or the missing individual," she said.

Vassallo said police were following up on some information Monday, and will resume the search if needed.

The man's name has not been released, at the request of his family.
