An Annapolis Valley high school principal charged with sex crimes spent the night in jail for allegedly having contact with a Crown witness.
According to court records, Doug Keyes — the principal at Avon View High School in Windsor — was arrested on Thursday and charged with breaching an undertaking.
The 51-year-old man is facing 10 charges including sexual assault, sexual touching and breach of trust. He is also charged with using a computer system with intent to commit an offence and producing a false document.
All the charges relate to one complainant — a young man who contacted police in November, alleging he was victimized by Keyes in 1998.
One of the conditions of Keyes' release was to stay away from both the complainant and eight other Crown witnesses.
The case is scheduled to be back in court on March 27. In the meantime, Keyes is on paid administrative leave until the court cases are heard.
Keyes, of Gypsum Mines, became principal at the school in August 2009.
