The RCMP says they'll have three ships patrolling the Halifax Harbour during the Tall Ship Festival this weekend.
Besides making sure boats stay out of the way of the Tall Ships, police say they will be monitoring the water for more sinister activities.
Al Seward is the captain of the Preventor, the biggest of the RCMP vessels.
"This boat is constantly on the look out for anything out of the ordinary that may indicate that a vessel is involved in smuggling and it could be immigration, bringing in illegal immigrants and so on that we have to get a handle on right away," he said.
Police are reminding people that drinking alcohol and steering a boat carries the same penalties as drinking and driving on the road.
