RCMP and dozens of volunteers are combing the woods in rural Cape Breton searching for a woman who has been missing for nearly two weeks.
Michelle Marie Demers-Kennedy, 57, lives alone near Framboise in Richmond County. She hasn’t been seen for nearly two weeks but was only reported missing on Sunday.
On Thursday, police and about 30 volunteers continued their search, scouring the woods near Demers-Kennedy’s home.
RCMP are bringing in a helicopter and a canine unit to assist in the search.
RCMP Sgt. Mark MacPherson said police don't believe that Demers-Kennedy simply left for a few days without telling anyone.
"From what we've determined, so far, and things we've located in the residence, we don't believe that's the situation at all. If it was, it would be great, but right now we don't have anything that would indicate that," he said.
MacPherson said police are interviewing her family and neighbours, trying to come up with clues to her whereabouts. He said while they have nothing that points to foul play, they can't rule that out.
