Five people including the late singer Raylene Rankin are the newest members of the Order of Nova Scotia.

Rankin, who was also a songwriter and member of the popular musical group the Rankin Family, died last year after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Other recipients of the province's highest order include:

  • Halifax businessman Fred George
  • Cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Cecil (Ed) Kinley
  • Fossil collector Eldon George
  • Peace activist and teacher Hetty van Gurp

The awards will be presented during an investiture ceremony in Halifax on Nov. 27.
