Public Gardens reopened after evacuation, search for weapon
24-year-old man arrested and released without charges
A 24-year-old man has been released without charges after Halifax Regional Police got a report about a suspicious person in the Public Gardens in downtown Halifax.
Officers were called to the park at 11:06 a.m. on Monday after getting a call about a man walking in the area who was heard talking to himself about a firearm hidden inside the Public Gardens.
The Public Gardens were evacuated and locked down for a couple of hours.
Halifax Regional Police and two canine units thoroughly searched the park but were unable to find anything.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He had no weapon on him, police said, and there were no reports of anyone seeing a gun in the area. The man has been released without charges.
