Propane leaks from Dartmouth Irving facility

About 1,000 litres of propane has leaked from the Irving Oil facility off Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

Propane has leaked from the Irving Oil facility off Pleasant Street in Dartmouth, but a fire official says there's little risk to the public.

The area does smell like propane and there is a plume that's dispersing over Halifax Harbour.

Fire division commander Scott Shaffner said the leak was large at the beginning, but that it's "settled down quite a bit."

"It’s a very small leak now," he said. "They've isolated the issue and the amount coming out posses a very low risk at this point in time.”

The problem was spotted Wednesday morning by workers at the facility and firefighters were called.
