Police investigate death of 5-month-old in Sydney Mines
Cape Breton police say death does not appear to be suspicious, but officers not sure how baby died
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday on a five-month-old baby who was found dead in a Sydney Mines house over the weekend.
Cape Breton Regional Police said Sunday the death does not appear to be suspicious, but it's too early to say how the baby died. The major crime and forensic units have been called in to investigate.
Police were called to a house on Windsor Street in Sydney Mines at around noon.
"Sadly, as a result of that call, they came upon an infant child," Staff Sgt. Ken O'Neill said. "The male child had been found deceased."
Officers remained at the home well into Sunday evening.
O’Neill said the results of the autopsy, to be performed in Halifax, will help determine what direction the investigation takes.
