A 28-year-old man is recovering in hospital from a stab wound to the chest and other injuries he suffered during a brawl in downtown Halifax on early Sunday morning.

Police said the man was involved in a large disturbance at 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Argyle and Blower streets, near the area known as 'Pizza Corner'.

Halifax Staff Sgt. Reid McCombs said the man was severely beaten and was bleeding from his head.

"It was a fair sized crowd for a little bit. We're probably talking in the area of 50 to 100 people gathering at that time. Most aren't involved, most are gathering and watching," he said.

Police said the Dartmouth man has non-life threatening injuries.
