One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash near Lower River Inhabitants, N.S., early Monday morning.

Workers with the Department of Transportation said they spotted the crashed car around 5:30 a.m., about four kilometres off of Highway 104 in Cape Breton.

RCMP Cpl. Ron MacDonald said in a news release that the vehicle left the road, struck a power pole and went into the ditch.

The 68-year-old man, the driver and lone occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There's no word on the cause of the crash.

The investigation continues.
