The interrupter clause lets the Utility and Review Board respond to sudden and significant changes in the petroleum market to adjust Nova Scotia prices ahead of the regular weekly change. (CBC)

The price of diesel fuel in Nova Scotia has increased by 6.4 cents per litre this morning.

Diesel now costs 150.6 cents per lite in Halifax, but prices are often higher outside the city.

The change happened at midnight.

Provincial regulators used a special clause to increase the price before the usual, weekly adjustment on Friday. It's reserved for times when there are sharp changes in market conditions.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board announced on Monday it would invoke its interrupter clause.
