An abandoned community centre lot in Halifax is up for sale. The city is asking $1.1 million for the former Northcliffe Recreation Centre property.

The Clayton Park centre was boarded up for almost two years before it was recently demolished.

The tennis and basketball facilities and the nearby wooded areas are not included in the sale.

Coun. Russell Walker said the land can't be developed into housing.

"It could be a church, any institutional use at all. School or hospital, no residential at all," he said.

Walker said there's already been some interest from a church and a language school. He adds any development of the site has to include an access road to the tennis courts.

A children's playground will be moved to another section of the park.
