The emergency department at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney is temporarily closed — and will remain that way until further notice.

Officials at the hospital said this is an unexpected closure due to an increase in the number of patients currently registered at the emergency room.

They are not estimating when the ER will reopen.

Anyone needing emergency medical treatment should dial 911 or go the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
