A 23-year-old man died in a crash near Blockhouse, N.S., Friday evening after an RCMP officer tried to pull him over for suspected speeding.

The province`s Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate. Team director Ronald MacDonald said the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on Cornwall Road in Newburne.

A police officer attempted to pull over a car for speeding, but the driver sped away. MacDonald said the vehicle ended up crossing the road, into the ditch and hit a tree.

The driver was dead on the scene.

The serious response team is probing the accident because it involved police.
