A fire in Wedgeport, N.S., levelled a home leaving a mother and her six children homeless, according the Canadian Red Cross.

The organization said the family was not hurt, but lost nearly everything.

The family is staying with family members for now. The children are between four and 17 years old.

The Canadian Red Cross is providing emergency aid.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Meanwhile, a couple and their two children under the age of eight escaped a house fire in Lockport.
