People hoping to catch the bus home throughout the Maritimes were facing delays of an hour or more on Monday.

The new Maritime Bus service that started Dec. 1 has been falling behind on the Christmas rush. Owner Mike Cassidy said this week the company is focusing on getting everyone, and everything, to their destinations safely.  

"We are selling over 1,000 tickets per day, we have the parcels along with the passengers," said Cassidy. "We're trying to be so cautious that we have all the bags, all the parcels, all the passengers, that it is putting us behind."  

Scheduling problems and high demand are causing the delays, he said, adding he plans to study the cause of the delays and deal with them in the new year.
