Man with knife at Mic Mac Mall facing theft charges
Call prompted significant response from Halifax Regional Police
An 18-year-old man is facing theft and possession of stolen goods charges after he was arrested at Mic Mac Mall while carrying a knife.
Police were called to the scene at 12:34 p.m. on Tuesday following a report that a man was in the mall with what looked like a gun in his belt.
The call prompted a significant response from Halifax Regional Police, but when officers arrived on the scene there was no firearm.
Police did arrest a man who had a small knife in a holster. Police allege they found items stolen from the Winners HomeSense store on him.
Police say no one ever witnessed the man carrying a gun, no one was threatened and the knife was never taken from the holster.
The Winners HomeSense was closed for a short time while officers investigated, but the store is now open.
The man who was arrested has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
