A man suffered serious injuries after falling out of a moving vehicle while trying to climb onto the vehicle’s roof.

At around 12:38 a.m. on Saturday, Colchester County RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 2 near Alton, N.S.

RCMP Cpl. Bill Marble said a vehicle with five people was travelling northbound on Highway 2 between Stewiacke and Truro when a 26-year-old passenger climbed out of a window, attempting to get onto the moving vehicle’s roof.

"The preliminary investigation has shown that the man was in the vehicle and he climbed out of the window and disappeared from view of the other people in the vehicle. They stopped the car, went back and found him injured in the road," he said.

The man was seriously injured when he fell and was unresponsive at the scene.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The police are continuing to investigate.

This follows a similar incident in New Brunswick earlier this week.

On Wednesday, a 19-year-old from Jardineville, N.B. died from injuries he sustained while climbing out of the window of a moving vehicle, trying to get onto the roof.
