A 21-year-old man faces charges after he allegedly sprayed another man in the face with an unknown irritant on Tuesday night. Halifax police responded to an altercation on Bayers Road and Romans Avenue at about 9:10 p.m.

There they found a 52-year-old man lying on the ground complaining that he had been sprayed in the face with some sort of sensory irritant.

The suspect had already fled the area. He was eventually tracked down and charged with assault with a weapon and violation of a court order.

The victim was treated by paramedics on scene.

Police say this was not a random act.
