A disabled man in Bedford is asking for thieves to return his prized dune buggy, stolen from the parking lot outside his apartment early Wednesday morning.
Ricky Hillier was born with spina bifida and uses as wheelchair. The buggy, a red Hammerhead 250, was a gift from his brother.
“Losing that thing just breaks my heart,” he said. “It breaks my heart because it was a gift.”
Hillier equipped the machine with hand controls and he’s been enjoying the freedom every since, cruising around at local beaches.
Now that prized buggy is gone, stolen by thieves as Hillier slept.
On Thursday, Halifax Regional Police put out a public appeal for help tracking down the buggy and the culprit, or culprits, who took it.
The buggy was inside a utility trailer parked outside 357 Larry Uteck Blvd. in Bedford. Police believe the trailer containing the buggy was stolen between midnight and 2 a.m.
Anyone with information on the location of the buggy, or who took it, are asked to call the police.
