A 48-year-old man is dead after falling from the roof of a building at 295 Lacewood Drive in Halifax, say police.

The man was working on top of the building when he fell four storeys around 11 a.m.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"We know he was working on the roof along with other people," said Halifax Regional Police Const. Pierre Bourdages. "They are being interviewed."

Bourdages said police have no indication what caused the man to fall.

The Nova Scotia department of labour has been called in. The department has issued a stop work order until it is satisfied that the project can resume in a safe manner.

The victim’s name is being withheld until the family is notified.
