Man charged with sexual assault of elderly N.S. woman
A 45-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault against an 84-year-old woman in Springhill, N.S.
Paul Noiles faces seven charges, including break and enter, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and uttering threats.
Officers with the Springhill Police Service said a man forced his way inside the 84-year-old woman's home at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Deputy Chief Ken Matthews said the accused and the victim knew each other.
"He currently lives in the metro area in Halifax, originally from Springhill," Matthews told CBC News.
"He does have a history with these type of offences in the past."
The man was arrested at a home in Springhill three hours after the alleged attack.
"It's a heinous crime. It's a crime that's not tolerated by society or by our police department or the members or the townspeople in Springhill. It's revolting and it's not acceptable," said Matthews.
The Springhill Police Service said the woman was taken to hospital and treated. She's now recuperating with family.
The man is due in provincial court in Amherst on Wednesday.
