Police have charged a 50-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of Reita Louise Jordan, who was last seen almost three months ago.
Paul Trevor Calnen of Hammonds Plains was arrested on Brunswick Street in Halifax on Monday afternoon. He remains in custody.
Calnen is due back in provincial court on July 22.
Jordan, 34, was last seen on March 19 by friends. The Tantallon woman has not been seen or heard from since.
Sources tell CBC News that Jordan and Calnen were romantically involved.
Neighbours of the divorced father of two said they're surprised at Calnen's second-degree murder charge for killing his live-in partner.
"He was an average guy. He was a plumber. He worked hard. As far as I know he was good to his family. I'm friends with his kids. I mean, it seemed like an average household. We were all kind of shocked when that happened," said neighbour Scott Hanko.
"I thought she'd just went off to Toronto or Montreal and didn't talk to anyone anymore. Because Paul's not a violent guy, as far as I know, never hit anybody or done anything wrong," he said.
