Man appears in court on child abuse charges
6-week-old baby sustained life-threatening injuries
A man is facing charges in relation to suspected child abuse after a six-week-old baby was brought to the IWK Health Centre two days ago with life-threatening injuries.
The 37-year-old Phillip Jason Bowden of Halifax appeared in Halifax Provincial Court Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault and failing to provide necessities of life.
Police arrived at the IWK on Monday evening. After an investigation into a suspected case of child abuse, the police laid charges against Bowden, the baby's father.
Bowden was remanded into custody and will appear in court again on Friday.
The baby remains in hospital.
