The Liberals in Nova Scotia say they would bring in new graduate scholarships intended to boost research and development if they form the next provincial government.

Party Leader Stephen McNeil said if he's elected, he would implement a program where about 300 graduate-level students would be awarded scholarships annually in an effort to stimulate research in innovation at universities.

McNeil said the scholarships would be worth between $10,000 and $15,000.

New Democrat Leader Darrell Dexter said the NDP would bring in a program next year that aims to make it easier for college and university graduates to buy their first home.

Dexter says the details of the program would be worked out in consultation with student groups.

The election is Oct. 8.
