A senior member of the administration at the University of King's College in Halifax is facing sex charges for alleged incidents in the 1980s.
Gerry G. Smith, who has been the bursar at the university since 1994, has been charged with sexual assault, indecent assault and gross indecency for incidents alleged to have taken place between 1980 and 1985.
Smith was placed on a paid leave of absence Friday.
Adriane Abbott, the director of advancement at the University of King's College, confirmed the leave of absence and said the charges pre-date Smith's time at the university.
The bursar is the equivalent of vice-president of finance and administration at other universities.
