Inmates damage Sydney jail
A dormitory was damaged in a three-hour disturbance at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility early Thursday.
The Nova Scotia Justice Department says three inmates armed with make-shift weapons barricaded the doors to the 13-bed dormitory.
The prisoners began damaging property at about 12:30 a.m. Jail staff got the situation under control at 3 a.m. by using stun guns on two of the inmates.
There were no reports of injuries to the inmates or staff.
Cape Breton Regional Police were called to the jail, but justice officials said the officers weren't needed.
Police and corrections officials are investigating. There was no word on charges as of late Thursday morning.
The medium-security jail in Sydney opened in 1975. It can house up to 96 male inmates.
