Some parents are scrambling to figure out where to send their children during March break after the Halifax school board announced it's shutting down its Excel winter and summer camps.

The camps provide affordable care and activities for children.

The Halifax Regional School board said not enough parents were using the program to make it viable.

"We don't make a lot of money off it and we also have a situation where it interrupts our maintenance and cleaning of our school buildings," said board spokesman Doug Hadley.

Parent Kim Hermason said that's leaving some parents stranded.

"I know parents in our school that work full time and perhaps aren't able to take off March break so I think it is going to affect them,' she said.

The board said there are other camp programs around the city parents can use to keep their children occupied.
