A Halifax Regional Police officer is facing an assault charge after an incident earlier this month in Lower Vaughan, located in Hants County, N.S.
On May 4, Windsor RCMP responded to an assault complaint between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on a walking trail in the Lower Vaughan area involving an off-duty HRP officer.
The 55-year-old victim in the attack called police.
Following an investigation, 45-year-old HRP Const. Daniel Kavanaugh was charged with assault against the man.
Windsor RCMP would not confirm whether Kavanaugh and the victim knew each other, or to what extent the man was injured.
Kavanaugh, who has been with HRP for six years, is scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on June 18.
Kavanaugh remains on active duty, pending an internal review of the incident.
