The Halifax Regional Municipality is beginning a campaign to shame petowners into picking up their dog’s poop at Point Pleasant Park.

"The snow is gone, spring is here and with it has come a noticeable amount of uncollected dog waste in Point Pleasant Park," read a release.

The city says it will place flags next to "problem areas" in the park on Friday to remind owners to pick up after their animals.

The city said dog poop contains disease-carrying bacteria that can pollute water and harm humans and other pets.

A bylaw requires owners to pick up after their animals.

The city has set up poop bag dispensers at the park’s entrance.
