A Halifax man has been sentenced to house arrest for a motorboat crash three years ago that killed a man and injured a woman.

Daniel William MacKay of Hatchet Lake was handed an 18-month sentence Friday that includes nine months of house arrest and nine months with a curfew.

He is also banned from operating a motorboat for five years.

Earlier this year, MacKay was convicted on one charge of dangerous operation of a vessel causing the death of Kenny Juteau, and one charge of dangerous operation of a vessel causing bodily harm to Rhonda Roach.

MacKay's boat, Never a Dull Moment, smashed into a buoy in the Bedford Basin at 1:32 a.m. on July 4, 2005. Juteau, 41, was catapulted into the water. His body was found 11 days later.
