Hiker in distress airlifted out of Hubley trail area
Cormorant helicopter transported woman to CFB Shearwater, then she went to hospital
A hiker in medical distress had to be rescued by a military Cormorant helicopter crew Tuesday afternoon.
A 20-year-old woman was hiking in the Hubley area of Nova Scotia, near Upper Five Bridge Lake.
Police received a 911 call just before 4 p.m. about a hiker in medical distress.
More than an hour later, the air search and rescue helicopter deployed by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was able to airlift the woman out.
She was transported to Canadian Forces Base Shearwater and then taken to hospital.
The woman was hiking with an environmental education group.
The other hikers were able to canoe and walk back out.
Details of the woman's medical problem were not released.
