One man is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and another man received minor injures after their vehicle crashed into a ditch along Highway 207, say Nova Scotia RCMP.

Police were called to the scene on the Eastern Shore around 10:35 a.m.

Officers said the vehicle left the road and landed in water on its roof.

Cpl. Scott MacRae said it wasn't fully submerged but water got into the passenger compartment.

Initial reports from the scene indicated the 50-year-old driver had died in the crash, said MacRae in a statement. However, paramedics later found vital signs.

The driver was taken to Dartmouth General but was then transferred to the QEII where he is fighting for his life.

The passenger was treated at the hospital then released.

MacRae said the highway was slushy at the time

Police closed the stretch of road so officers could investigate, with the help of a traffic analyst.
